Love & Loss

Roady Rufus Rafiki Bower - 8/28/2004 - 05/22/2012

I cannot find the words to describe the depths of love & devotion I had for this wonderful dog.  I am heart broken.  Thank you, my friend, for the last 7 years and most especially 9 months of your life.

"One last word of farewell, Dear Master and Mistress. Whenever you visit my grave, say to yourselves with regret but also with happiness in your hearts at the remembrance of my long happy life with you: "Here lies one who loved us and whom we loved." No matter how deep my sleep I shall hear you, and not all the power of death can keep my spirit from wagging a grateful tail." ~ The Last Will & Testament of Silverdene Emblem O'Neill

  5. What? What happened? He looks so young, and I thought he was. That's what sucks about dogs, they don't live forever. So sorry, Jen.

    1. Ted, it has been looming. He held on for 9 months after the kidney failure diagnosis on his 7th birthday. I am just heart broken but so grateful for the extra time he gave us. Vet never could determine cause, but we suspect tainted Iams Probiotic dog food. In doing research, it appears around 2010 there were massive complaints of other dog owner going through the same thing. He was just so big and healthy that it took his body longer to show signs of distress...and by then it was too late for us to do anything other than make him as comfortable as possible. I just feel so guilty and like I failed him by being so ignorant about dog food.

    1. I know you can relate to how I am feeling and thank you. It has hit me hardest this weekend...it would have been such good quality time together and I spent the three days missing him so.

  9. Sincere commiserations Jennifer, we lost our beautiful girl two and a half years ago and not a day goes by I don’t think of her. They truly are the most wonderful unconditional companions and a little piece of them will always live n our hearts. Thoughts are with you.

    1. Thank you, Janet! I've really been struggling with his death. Like you said, a little piece always lives on. As a single parent there were just three things I did just for me: working with horses, my illustration, and my dog...his absence has left a huge void. Thank you for your kind and generous thoughts.
